- Description: This ground-hugging member of the spiderwort family is native to subtropical and tropical areas of the Americas. The plant has ovate leaves that clasp the stems and are green on top and purple below, giving ornamental value. Small white flowers appear in spring and summer. Two brown seeds form per bloom capsule. Stems can reach several feet long. Bolivian wandering Jew grows quickly and makes a good ground cover or hanging basket plant.
